Stop At: Termessos, On the Antalya Burdur Road, Antalya 07100 Turkey
I will pick you up from your hotel in Antalya and we start driving to the Termessos National Park. From the park entrance, we drive up a winding road to the archeological site parking lot. At the site parking lot are toilets, a temple and propylaeum dedicated to Emperor Hadrian and the goddess Artemis, an ancient cistern, and the Northeastern Necropolis, a hillside of tumbled tombs and sarcophagi, including a Monumental Tomb and a grand tomb with reliefs of lions. From the parking lot, we will walk fairly slowly along the rough path uphill toward the city heights. After 10-15 minutes of walk, we reach Lower City Walls, City Gate and Gymnasium and Baths. The ancient city of Termessos has the most dramatic situation of any ancient city in Turkey. Termessos is an unrestored site: signs mark the major buildings, and the principal paths are kept clear of brush, but you still get a good Indiana Jones feeling as you poke around looking at the fields of tumbled limestone blocks.
